On this occasion of Osaka’s connection to the world through Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, they want people to know more about Tsukamoto, a town full of good old-fashioned Osaka humanity, conveniently located one stop from Osaka Station, where individual stores are full of energy. They want it to continue to be a legacy of Osaka culture, and they will hold a town-walking event in everyone’s hometown, where people can blend in art, music, and coffee to feel the value of what is close at hand, utilizing the taste of coffee.
The event is scheduled to be held twice a year, on the “vernal equinox” and “autumnal equinox,” in order to experience Japan’s unique four seasons. They plan to have coffee shops, select stores, and artists from all over Japan set up store in the town’s representative venues, such as live houses, coffee roasters, antique stores, public bathhouses, and cafes. They aim to create an event where visitors can enjoy the art of “Yodo Wall” and the changing seasons with a cup of coffee in hand.
After 11 years of doing business in Tsukamoto, one frustration has become all too familiar: the frequent confusion between Tsukamoto and Tsukaguchi in Hyogo Prefecture.
It’s something many residents of Tsukamoto have experienced time and again.
Located just a short ride from Umeda, Tsukamoto is a convenient and comfortable place to live.
That’s exactly why the idea took root—why not turn Tsukamoto into a name known nationwide?
Known for being home to comedians and the subject of countless TV features, Tsukamoto carries a uniquely warm and humorous Osaka spirit.
The question has always been: how can that local vibe be shared with others?
That’s where coffee entered the picture.
With a business built around coffee, the focus turned to single-origin beans—grown and processed on individual farms, and roasted using a distinctive method.
The hope was that such coffee could capture and express the vibe of the community, creating a project that invites people to taste the spirit of Tsukamoto.
Single origin coffees from around the world are collected and sold in Osaka-style packaging.
Coffee made with coffee roasters from all over Japan will be displayed as a pavilion in the event.
By making it a coffee event where visitors can also walk around eating and drinking coffee, which is typical of Osaka, a city of food, we aim to revitalize the local community.
The initiative centers around Tsukamoto in Osaka, using coffee as a catalyst to help revitalize society as a whole. Much like the EXPO, coffee connects people across the globe and serves as a powerful educational tool for exploring environmental issues, social challenges, and cultural diversity.
Loved by humanity since ancient times, coffee has evolved with the ages, continuously fulfilling important roles in society.
In Tsukamoto—a neighborhood with many families raising children—this initiative uses coffee, a familiar and approachable beverage, to promote food education and cultural expression within the community.
The approach aligns closely with the goals of the EXPO2025 Osaka, Kansai: revitalizing local economies and sharing the richness of Japanese culture with the world.
By encouraging appreciation for the beauty of traditional and everyday things, and by sharing the uniqueness of one’s hometown and the diversity of its people,
this effort aspires to help build a society—like the EXPO—where dreams and hope can flourish.
