With the theme of the SDGs, the activities use scraps and leftover materials from companies to create crafts and traditional games. These experiences allow children to try things they can’t usually do at home or at school—slightly risky, daring, or borderline challenges—while developing their bodies and senses. The activities also aim to foster communication with others through such play.
This initiative was launched out of a desire to create a place where children can experience the kind of free-spirited play of the Showa era—full of risk, mess, and daring—that has been disappearing in recent times, by playing together and passing these traditions on.
As volunteer staff, multinational exchange students also join in, engaging in nostalgic Showa-era games with an SDGs focus, such as cardboard caterpillar races, letter fishing, and bettan.
A variety of activities are being carried out to boost Japan through art in the lead-up to the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025.
