The Taishogoto, a Japanese-born instrument, once experienced a period of widespread popularity. However, with the emergence of diverse instruments and hobbies, the number of Taishogoto players has gradually declined. Its music is written in numeric notation, allowing people of all ages and backgrounds—even those who cannot read staff notation—to enjoy playing it. Through the Expo, it is hoped that this unique instrument and its music can be shared with the world.
The Taishokgoto Osaka Koto Senshukai was established to spread the appeal of the Taishogoto and to pass on the skills of this traditional instrument to the next generation. The Taishogoto, which can be played easily even if one cannot read music, plays a role in lifelong learning, especially for older people. Their goal is to continue to develop activities mainly in Higashiosaka City and to contribute to the revitalization of cultural activities in the community.
Taishokgoto Osaka Koto Senshukai offers Taishogoto classes throughout Osaka Prefecture. They are especially active in Higashiosaka City, and offer instruction for all levels, from beginners to experienced players. In addition, they are always looking for events where people from overseas can experience playing the Taishogoto.
Their performance at the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai is scheduled to take place on a pop-up stage in May. In preparation for the Expo, they are preparing a multilingual Taishogoto awareness program for visitors from Japan and abroad, and at the same time, their goal is to continue our awareness program for the world at large after the Expo is over. Taking advantage of the unusual location of the hotel in the local shopping district, they are planning to incorporate a Taishogoto program into the hands-on lodging experience.
