This is a project to transform 100 Suntory vending machines in the Kinki region into street corner art pavilions to enliven the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai with 47 JAPAN artists who have ties to the 47 prefectures.
【Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai is a “Festival of Japan】One artist from each of the 47 prefectures in Japan will be invited to participate in this project.
【The art theme is “Brilliance of Life,” a section of the main theme of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai】 Using vending machines on street corners as canvases, 47 streets of “Brilliance of Life” will enliven the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai from the streets!
As a strategy to encourage circulation in Kansai’s cities during the EXPO visitor flow, a campaign linked with the “EXPO Wallet” called “Tour the Art Vending Machines” is currently being planned and developed. Stay tuned!
The project originated from an idea submitted to Suntory’s internal “Ideas to Boost the EXPO” campaign. As a national event attracting many people and goods from around the world, the EXPO is a global festival where visitors gather. This project was born from the desire to energize EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai from the city by leveraging Suntory’s “vending machines” as local storefronts.
The actual rollout of the “Street Corner Pavilion (EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai Art Vending Machines)” will begin in January 2025, the year of the event. Although the vending machines belong to Suntory, deployment cannot proceed without the consent of location owners. Deployment is being considered for symbolic locations across the Kansai region’s two prefectures and four cities, focusing on busy places such as stations, tourist spots, shopping districts, and commercial facilities.
The “Street Corner Pavilion” project aims to create an Osaka and Kansai region overflowing with everyday art! By building a city rich in art, young talents will have opportunities not only overseas but also within Japan, contributing to the creation of attractive urban spaces. Creating a city full of charm—through both gourmet experiences and art—is believed to also contribute to the founding city, Osaka.
