Water Metropolis Osaka Bridge Terrace

Creating a modern version of the “town bridge” system for everyone to work on.

In order to carry on the town bridge system and movements that were carried out by the bridge towns in the past, the public side will introduce existing systems and improve space and infrastructure to facilitate activities by the private sector, while the private sector will serve as a new venue for community activities through lively activities and daily maintenance activities on bridges that have not been utilized very much in the past, The public and private sectors are working to solve local problems and improve the attractiveness of the bridges they each have, with the aim of increasing the value of the area.

Project Inauguration

In preparation for the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, the City of Osaka is seeking to revitalize the city by improving the circulation of tourists from Japan and abroad, attracting more visitors, and creating more opportunities for them to interact and stay in Osaka. In this context, the public, private, and academic sectors have decided to collaborate to study the future of bridges along the “water corridor,” a symbol of Osaka as an aquatic metropolis, through social experiments on how to effectively utilize public space.

Project Activities

In 2023, “Nakanoshima Bridge Terrace 2023 Autumn” was held at the Crystal Bridge in October. In 2024, “Nakanoshima Bridge Terrace 2024 Spring” was held in May, again at Nakanoshima Garden Bridge.

Future Prospects for the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai

In the fall of 2024, the number of bridges to be covered will be increased to four, and the Water Metropolis Osaka Bridge Terrace will be implemented with a view to the time of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. They would like to take advantage of the opportunity for many people to focus on and visit Osaka, and to build momentum by conducting a menu that coincides with the theme week of the Expo, as well as to promote further public, private, and academic collaboration.
