Osaka Prefecture and Osaka City are planning three locations along the “East-West Axis of Water and Light” connecting Nakanoshima, a symbol of water and light, and the Expo site (Bay Area), in order to promote the attractiveness of the water city Osaka to people in Japan and abroad at the time of the Osaka-Kansai World Exposition,The “East-West Axis of Water and Light,” which connects the symbolic Nakanoshima Water Corridor (in central Osaka City) and the Expo site (in the Bay Area), will feature attractive content utilizing water and light, such as water shows and projection mapping that can be enjoyed from the boat.
Taking the opportunity of Expo as a springboard, the project is designed to encourage citizens and other visitors to the Expo site to enjoy the attractions of Osaka as a waterfront city by taking a boat tour of tourist attractions in Osaka City, as well as to create a lively waterfront area and revitalize the boating industry. They will also work to create a lively waterfront area and revitalize boat transportation.
In 2017, they established the Water Metropolis Osaka Consortium as an effort to “revitalize” Water Metropolis Osaka through public-private partnership, and have been promoting initiatives such as expanding waterfront and water tourism menus and further revitalizing boat transportation under the basic concept of “bringing smiles to residents, workers, and visitors, while creating a first-class water metropolis unrivaled in the world. We have been promoting initiatives such as the expansion of waterfront and water sightseeing menus and further revitalization of boat transportation.
On the occasion of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, they will make efforts in the following activities so that people in Japan and abroad can fully experience the efforts we have made to improve the attractiveness of the waterfront area.
(1) Take advantage of the Expo to create opportunities to board boats by utilizing new landing sites, etc.
(2) Establish the branding of Osaka as a waterfront city and further strengthen information dissemination
(3) Revitalize the waterfront and secure new players, not only during the Expo but also after the Expo is over.
