Osaka is home to “Treasures of Osaka” that have been collected and passed down by our forefathers as the city prospered from ancient times to the present day.
They have defined such “Treasures of Osaka” as the identity of Osaka, and with the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai in mind, six museums in Osaka City have launched a project to showcase the allure of these treasures.
The six museums – the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts, Osaka Museum of Natural History, The Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka, Osaka Science Museum, Osaka Museum of History, and Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka- will be hosting the “OSAKA-HAKU.”
120 representative pieces have been selected as “Treasures of Osaka” that will be on display at the web exhibition and physical exhibitions, and will enable visitors to experience the charm of Osaka.
A large number of domestic and international tourists are expected to visit Osaka for the EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai. With the Expo drawing international attention to Osaka, a project team was formed in fiscal year 2022 to explore collaborative initiatives among the six museums operated by them organization.
This project was initiated with the desire to have people living in Osaka, as well as visitors to the city, experience the charm of Osaka by promoting ways to enjoy the city, primarily through museums.
They launched the “OSAKA-HAKU” website in January 2024 and have been continuously updating it with exhibition information from each museum and special content to enjoy “OSAKA-HAKU”. In February of the same year, they launched “Digital Osaka Museums,” a website where you can view “Treasures of Osaka” online. They are gradually releasing 120 items of the “Treasures of Osaka” and also sharing the stories behind each piece. They are also conducting initiatives in collaboration with the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the “Naniwa Nandemo Osaka Challenge,” such as creating commemorative NFTs featuring “Treasures of Osaka” and distributing them to participants of each quiz, and linking up with the EXPO 2025 digital wallet.
While they have been progressively unveiling the “Treasures of Osaka” online, they will be showcasing these artifacts in physical exhibitions at each museum during the EXPO 2025.
In addition, they plan to provide various contents such as sightseeing routes that combine each museum with its surrounding spots and videos of curators explaining how to enjoy the “Treasures of Osaka.” Through the OSAKA-HAKU, their museum aims to make museum visits more enjoyable and accessible to all.
