Taking advantage of the opportunity of EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Sakai will become a field for experimenting with future society. It will challenge new initiatives that were not possible before and maximize its potential to become a city where everyone can hold dreams and hopes for the future.
The hosting of EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai offers an excellent opportunity to promote Osaka and Kansai, and significant economic ripple effects are expected from the many visitors coming from Japan and abroad.
To seize this opportunity, Sakai aims to fully leverage its potential and capture these benefits. In cooperation with Osaka Prefecture, Osaka City, and surrounding areas, this project was launched to contribute to Sakai’s growth and development.
As part of efforts to raise momentum and promote Sakai’s appeal for maximizing the impact of EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, countdown events before the opening, booth exhibitions at city-wide attraction events, and city dressing activities were carried out in collaboration with private companies and other partners.
In December 2023, the momentum-building event “MIRAI SAKAI EXPO PARK in Ohama Park,” held to mark 500 days before the Expo’s opening, attracted many visitors to both experience and exhibition areas, successfully promoting the 500-day countdown and Sakai’s reputation as a cycling city.
Furthermore, Haniwa Manager, responsible for PR activities for Sakai, declared himself the “Unofficial Ambassador Supporting EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai.” He has been actively promoting Sakai and the Expo by producing key visuals collaborating unofficially with MyakuMyaku, sharing posts on social media, and participating in events both inside and outside the city to boost excitement around the Expo and Sakai.
In addition, to connect the benefits of the Expo to the future of Sakai’s children, joint outreach lessons titled “Unofficial Ambassador Supporting EXPO!” were held for schools in Sakai in cooperation with JICA Kansai. A special class introducing Czech culture was also conducted by staff from the Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Sakai.
Positioning the Expo site as a gateway that draws people into the city, the project aims to showcase Sakai’s unique historical culture and tourism resources through various events, fully leveraging Sakai’s potential to promote the city’s appeal.
Additionally, by seizing the valuable opportunity of hosting the Expo in Osaka, it aims to create opportunities for children and young people—the next generation—to feel connected to the international community, cultivate diverse values and broad perspectives, and inspire actions toward the future.
Through these efforts, the project strives not only to maximize impact during the Expo period but also to take on new initiatives that were previously unattainable after the Expo, aiming to build a city where everyone can hold dreams and hopes for the future.
