Executive Director, Japan Textile Design Association (General Incorporated Association)

YAZAWA Suzuko

  • Founder, Coco Planning (Textile Design Coordinator)

After graduating from junior college, she joined a rapidly growing catalogue sales company in Osaka, where she worked on planning talent‑branded products. After marriage she worked for a textile design firm and became independent at 36. To build networks she joined the Japan Textile Design Association (TDA), a general incorporated association with members nationwide, and she currently serves as a director promoting the “Mimi Project.”

She wants to take on the challenge of enlivening the Expo within its large platform and involving many people. While there are many possible entry points for engagement, she intends to focus on promoting the wonderful potential of our charming “fabric selvedges” through events, drawing on five years of project experience.

We want to gather the new information and values flowing into the Expo from around the world and bundle together the individual voices from Japan — especially those emerging from Osaka — that say “this is the direction we want to take.” By visualizing a large, coherent vector formed from these aligned energies, we aim to reveal a clear pathway forward. We believe this will call for new forms of community consistent with the Expo’s theme, “Designing Future Societies in which Life Shines.” Launching this city‑wide Machigoto Expo project is a promising means to that end, helping build a sustainable Osaka and serve as a prototype for future societies.
