Chairperson, Kansai ARAIMO Executive Committee

YAMAMOTO Masaki

  • Representative of MAYA JAPAN
  • Executive Committee Member, “Dai-Osaka Kimono Meikan Epoch”

He lives in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, and was born in 1974. After graduating from university, he experienced several career changes. Influenced by his older brother, who has an intellectual disability, and LGBTQ individuals he met at work, he decided to launch a social business.

In 2018, he founded “MAYA JAPAN,” an underwear brand that supports minorities. Alongside this business, he has organized the “Kansai ARAIMO” fashion show every year since 2021, an inclusive event co-created by LGBTQ individuals and their allies, aiming to build a more inclusive society.

His work has been featured in various media outlets, including NHK. Drawing on his experience, he also gives lectures on topics such as SDGs and diversity. In addition, he is active as a DJ and event producer, with a wide range of activities.

At Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, one of the major themes is the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which Japan began addressing in 2015. Among these goals are “Goal 5: Achieve gender equality” and “Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries.” However, even after the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Japan still lags behind other G7 nations when it comes to issues such as LGBTQ+ inclusion and equality. As Expo 2025 will bring together people from all around the world, we see this as a vital opportunity to accelerate the realization of a society that embraces diversity. Through the power of fashion shows, we aim to contribute to this goal and create meaningful impact.
