Director, Reenal Business, Resona Research Institute

FUJIWARA Akira

He graduated from Osaka City University with a degree in commerce in 1992 and joined Daiwa Bank (now Resona Bank). In 1997 he was dispatched overseas as a trainee to East China Normal University in Shanghai. In response to management’s call to “create a new vision for banking” triggered by the 2003 Resona crisis, he launched the REENAL (RESONA + REGIONAL) project in collaboration with partners such as FM802 and Osaka Prefecture. He produced over 500 initiatives, including the art cash card “RESONART,” a neighborhood time‑deposit and commemorative sake tied to Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street called “Hyakutenmantenhyaku,” the Tenma Tenjin Hanjotei charity rakugo performances, and a campaign with a bottle manufacturer promoting personal water bottles and tumblers. In August 2007 he was invited to the U.S. Department of State’s IVLP (International Visitor Leadership Program). He was selected as one of “100 People Who Will Break Through Japan” by AERA magazine.

To further energize the Expo — expected to attract 28.2 million visitors and act as a catalyst for the Kansai economy — and to ensure it does not end as a one‑off event, we will leverage our role as a financial institution under the concept “A Mission — Devoting Our Lives.” Through this project, we are committed to contributing to the sustainable development of the Kansai region.
