He was born in Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture, in 1958. After graduating from Osaka Prefectural College of Technology, he retired from Sharp Corporation at the mandatory retirement age and subsequently rejoined an affiliated company. At age 12, in 1970, he was captivated by the Osaka Expo—the Tower of the Sun, the avant‑garde pavilions and visual displays, and the otherworldly atmosphere that brought him into contact with many countries. Since then he has visited expos held in Japan and abroad and, to enjoy them at home, has collected various materials and memorabilia, focusing on pins and badges.
In 2013, inspired by activities introducing overseas expos to Japan, he shifted from “enjoying expos personally” to actively working to promote the value of expos. He has attended all expos held in Japan and has visited 11 international expos; his collection comprises approximately 16,000 items.
We see expos as investments in the future—for Japan and the world. For us, the Expo has already begun. Though our contributions are modest, we are undertaking various activities in the hope of helping ensure the success of EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
