President, All‑Japan Konbou Association

AZUMA Kashi

He is the representative of the satoyama creative group Tsuchishiki and president of the All‑Japan Club Association. Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1991, he moved to Uda City, Nara Prefecture in 2015 to live a satoyama lifestyle. In 2020 he launched “Satoyama 2220,” a 200‑year plan to cultivate cedar forests into mixed broadleaf woodlands. In 2021, alongside his satoyama work, he began making clubs and devised a sport he calls “club throwing.” His publications include The Human Composting Project (Sogensha), Tsuchishiki 2020, and Club Basics.

We will keep making clubs no matter what happens in the world. We are focused on the satoyama ecosystem two hundred years from now. In the grand scheme, the Expo is only a process — just one step. However, since it is too big an opportunity to pass up, for now we will create something during the Expo that is even more interesting than the Expo itself.
