Osaka Good Yokan

Place:

A project to create a “new Osaka souvenir” for 2025

With the goal of creating a new category of sweets that would become synonymous with Osaka souvenirs, the “Osaka Good Yokan” project was born as a platform for Kansai confectioners to collaborate rather than compete. The name “Osaka Good Yokan” encapsulates our aspiration to create yokan (traditional Japanese sweet made from red bean paste) that evoke positive feelings in both the giver and the receiver, as well as a sense of anticipation for the future of Osaka in 2025.

“Pavilion” – A cube-shaped yokan that encapsulates the essence of Osaka

The first product of “Osaka Good Yokan” is “Pavilion,” a bite-sized cube-shaped yokan that showcases the charm of Osaka while symbolizing the collaboration of various confectioners, similar to pavilions in the Expo. Over 10 Japanese confectionery stores, Western confectionery shops, and even high school and university students participated in this project, creating over 30 unique varieties under the common theme of “Osaka essence x texture.” The packaging design, created by Ningen Inc., is colorful and unconventional for traditional Japanese sweets.

The Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai is just a milestone. They aim to continue contributing to the growth of the confectionery industry beyond the Expo.

Through the “Osaka Good Yokan” project, they aim to revitalize Osaka, Kansai, and Japan as a whole, and create a better future for our children and generations to come. While the Expo is a significant milestone, they view it as a six-month-long festival. However, they believe that the Expo can serve as a catalyst for future thinking and become a major turning point that will influence the actions and thoughts of all humanity. We are committed to the “Osaka Good Yokan” project because we believe that creating a new category of Osaka souvenirs will be a “souvenir” for the future, benefiting both the confectionery industry and those who love sweets.
